!Rebolt! Available in the App Store!

Posted to Games, iPhone by Matt on January 11th, 2009

Our iPhone robot combat game, !Rebolt! has finally made it through approval purgatory and is now available in the App Store for $0.99!

Go buy it! (iTunes)

Adam and I began work on the prototype as a weekend-long project for TIGJam 08, but it quickly turned into our most ambitious iPhone project to date! After ten weeks of hard work, we’re happy to finally have it out for folks to play! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Maximize your score, collect data to learn humanity’s ultimate fate, and maybe you’ll even find one of the Bonus Missions!

In case you missed the final trailer, here it is again!

That's good news! Think the game is great, but analogue controls will make it even better. Found the accelerometer controls a bit difficult. Look forward to the update.

Adam and I have actually been working on a 1.1 update in our free time the last couple weeks that addresses some of these and a few other issues. We've switched over to a virtual analogue stick as you mentioned, as we also much prefer them to the accelerometer controls. I've also added the "N" button for another mission -- it was previously left out due to a difficult technical limitation that I've since solved. We've also managed a bit of optimization that has slightly improved the framerate, plus a few other tweaks here and there.

In the long term we'd eventually like to add more environments and a few more weapons, though a big update like that may have to wait until the next game jam. ;)

We should have the 1.1 update ready to submit by the end of the week, so look for it to show up in the app store in the near future!

    Happy Playing!

    Hi Matt,

Rebolt is a pretty cool game, but there's definitely room for improvement. I hope you might consider some suggestions for an update.

My greatest concern: The game could benefit from an overhaul of the controls. NGMoco's Dropship has a really fantastic control scheme with its virtual analog controllers that work from anywhere on the screen. Such a control scheme would be well-suited to a game like Rebolt. If you haven't played Dropship, do check it out. I think the controls are really revolutionary for iPhone gaming and should be adopted by more developers.

It would also be great if, after a mission, there were a 'N' button that allowed you to escape to the main menu.

It would also be cool to play for longer than three minutes per level, maybe by creating a mission-based system, or allowing the player to end a mission at any time by returning to the dropship (add a dropship marker to the map).

These suggestions aside, though, Rebolt is a really nice game. Great presentation and fun to play. I'd just like to have more control and a longer game experience.

    Cheers,
    Matt

Congratulations! I would love to play this game, but unfortunately I don't have an iPhone... it would be great if you could eventually port these iPhone games to the PC.

Congratulations on getting the approval. I look forward to playing it. I remember this back from the TIGJam. It's great to see it in the wild, now.
