Work in Progress: Crane Wars

Posted to Games by Matthew on May 20th, 2009

The next Blurst game will be Crane Wars, a construction site battle between the Union and the Scabs.  We posted an early development video awhile ago, back when it was a prototype curated by Adam and Matt Mechtley.  Today the entire company is involved in its production as we move it from a prototype to a finished product.  It’s been keeping us busy–we’re getting it done sooner than you might think–so we haven’t had a ton of time to post much information to the blog.

Realizing this, we pulled out our trusty video-device and walked around to everyone’s desk so you can see what we’re working on.  Enjoy! For best viewing experience watch this in HD directly on Vimeo.

  • Is this possibly named after the Mr. Show sketch?

    The pop-up animations are looking really smooth. The "flushed down a really slow toilet" had me laughing. Also, nice gut-busting laugh with the union worker ;)

    Haha, really enjoying!
    Waiting for more, or even better, another... beta party. ;)

    This is sort of unrelated but why don't I stay signed in on the site anymore. Every time I leave a game even if it's just to check my achievements I get logged out and have to sign in again.
  • @Phil Nelson - There's a Mr Show sketch about wars between cranes? RAD.

    @Haruspex - You doll. I knew that would make you laugh, that's why we did it. ;)

    @Soad667 - You're a beta party animal! AN ANIMAL.
  • @Anthony_Galindo - If you're experiencing any kind of site weirdness, let us know by sending us an email to bugs@blurst.com. The more you can tell us about your internet setup the better.
  • I crave more info on the design process behind your games. Have it be design docs, more blog entries/updates or these videos. I have been really interested in Flashbang since Raptor Safari and I like to watch the process, you guys are a great team and the games that you produce in your timeline are quite impressive. I hope you keep up the sense of humor found in raptor, and it seems like the quality is only going up.

    The face rigging you have on the construction worker impressed me more than valves face poser, and to think that rig was for a browser game, wow.

    Wow, that new Alpha video was really amazing. ;)
    Like a much cooler version of Tower Bloxx. Keep it up!

    Btw, you're leaving back the vehicle-crane idea? One way or another, can't wait to see more...

    Love the union character... are the scabs going to be snarky skinny middle management types with glasses and pimples, or beefy like the union guy?

    @Thom

    I don't know if this is the kind of stuff you are looking for, but this blog has been up for a while now.

    Looks like you are really having fun creating games as a team! Awesome job so far, keep it up! ;)
  • Great looking game!
    Gameplay look very fun!
    Which program do you use for your 3d modeling/animation.

    Cheers and keep them comming. :D
